JUNTA CLOSES ECUADOR UNIVERSITY

The military junta that seized power in Ecuador last year closed . down the Central University in Quito January 30 through a decree announced by Lieutenant Colonel Dario Hinostroza.

The order, reminiscent of dictator Batistats policy in Cuba, followed clashes between students and armed forces deployed by the govern= ment. Troops used tear gas to break up student rallies.
