BRAZILIAN COMMUNISTS DEPOSE LUIS CARLOS PRESTES

Luis Carlos Prestes, secretary general of the Brazilian Communist party since the thirties, is reported to have been deposed at an underground Central Committee meeting in Rio de Janeiro in September; He was made "honorary chairman," The more militant 38-year-old Mario Alves was named head of the party.
