STRADDLES IN MOSCOW-PEKING DISPUTE

Publication October 7 of a statement by the leadership made it clear that the Norwegian Communist party will seek to remain neutral publicly in the conflict between Moscow and Peking. Previously the - party had seemed inclined in Peking's direction.

The statement, prepared at a.week-end meeting of the top leader~ship, expressed regret over the bitterness that has appeared in Moscow- Peking declarations and over the clashes that have occurred at a government level.

The Norwegian party is "not prepared to take part in the discussion in a manner that may further aggravate the situation," said the declara- “tion. The party hopes, instead, to contribute to “the re-establishment of comradely norms" between parties,
