The trade unions have orgenizeé various demonstrations during tho discussion of the bili in Parliament. There have boon very important stoppeges cf work, fizit by the workers Gircctly concerned by the moasure: clocctricity, gas, railways, metro, bus, ctc. On July 17 the traffic wos stopped all over France for at lezst one hour, in mary placos for many hours. The workers in private industry also demonstrated against the law by stopping work and holding meetings cnd Comonstrations. Though many workers are already on vacation, the ‘workers' demonstrations wore well attended. ~ si

battle in: which it will try to corrupt a part of the tradeunion movement and to break the other part. Its main cifficulty is the fact that the workers and civil servants affected by the present bill have very genuine wage grievances, They ‘are paid less than workers doing the same work in private industry. And full employment still exists. In ad¢cition the cost of living has gone up in the last few months, and new demands for wage increases are to be expected before the end of the year. ;
