LEFT SPLIT-OFF FROM COMMUNIST PARTY JOINS THE FOURTH INTERNATIONAL

The 1 August Vanguardia Proletaria, public organ of the Partido Obrero Revolucionario (Trotskista), Chilean Section of the Fourth International, published a letter from the Movimiento 2 de Abril announcing its decision to join the ranks of the P OR as a result of its agreement with the principles, programme, and policy of the Fourth International.

This movement, numerically quite strong, owes its name to the events of 2 April 1957, when popular protest demonstrations ended in a massacre by police and the CP leadership opportunistically capitulated; a large number of young communists who protested the party's capitulation were brutally expelled, and formed themselves into the Movimiento 2 de Abril. Subsequent contact with the POR, through ideological exchanges and fraternal discussion, resulted in their accepting our orated into the ranks of the FI. We offer a heartfelt wel sitions and being incor come to these young comrades.

In reporting these encouraging developments, only two of many in the turbulent evolution of the Chilean left, we regret that the general article on Chilean events, promised in our last issue, has not arrived in time for the current one. We hope that in our next we can fulfill our postponed promise.
