HUGis TuAY DAY RALLY IN CEYLON

‘' The May Day rally in Colombo exceeded all expectations. Gaile Face green wes alnost completely filled. It may have been the larsest rally ever held in Ceylon. LEven conservative estimates pus the crowd at one hundred thousand.

The huge turn out was attributed to enthusiasm anonc the masses at the prospect of a united front between the LSSP (Trotsiyists). the Corrunist party and the NEP (a smaller crovping led by Philip Gunawardene), the organizations which jointly sponsored the rally.

Seperate rellics were stared by the SLFP (left-bourceois perty now holdinc sovernnent power) and the UNP (richt-wing bourgeois party). The UNP meetinre drew a crowé of five or sis: thousand. The turnout at the SLFP rally wes around tivo thousand.
